My Fair Lady (a musical in two acts)

Let yourself be enchanted by the famous musical inspired by George Bernard Shaws “Pygmalio“ and by the movie from Gabriel Pascal. According to a Greek legend, the sculptor Pygmalion created a woman statue of such a beauty that he hopelessly fell in love with its own creation. The goddess Aphrodite brought the statue to life and gave it to Pygmalion as wife. George Bernard Shaws expanded the plot of this ancient original to the comedy “Pygmalion” which in turn is the basis for the successful musical My Fair Lady. In the musical the professor of phonetics Henry Higgins improves and smartens up the moneyless flower girl Eliza Doolittle to a grand dame of high society and he proudly introduces her to society on an important ball. Being so proud of her, the professor falls in love with Eliza and can hardly resist her.

Most of you know Hockney’s famous swimming pool paintings that are amongst the most popular image formulars of the 1960s. He has held his position as one of the most important contemporary artists for several years now and is being counted as one of the shinning figures of ‘Swinging London’ and chronicler of the cool Californian way of life. David Hockney is also famous for his still lives, sensitive portraits and landscapes, as well as for his photo collages, stage settings and creative appropriation of art historical phenomena.
